Time To Think, Think again and Act
Time To Think, Think Again and Act.
I write on this topic because day by day, match day after match day,in England, Spain,Germany, infact all over Europe. As the season finally and gradually comes to an end, one question on the lips of every ardent follower, fan and lover of football more so the super eagle of Nigeria would have lots of thinking, calculating and wishes will be the order of the day which will pan into weeks and months and would be the basis for argument among the rich, poor, adults, youths and children alike on the streets, parks, restaurants, beer parlours, newspaper stands and any of such place where people can interact, even in front of religious houses after religious service.
It is was observable that during the course of the football year or season, one thing that made us always staying glued to our televisions, searching social media and visiting sports I mean football websites has always and almost been to track the players with Nigerian roots, whether in the national team or not. This was done consciously or unconsciously for us to compare the technical abilities of our players against the best in the game.
With the present trend in our national team, it is very obvious that the technical manager of the team has so much faith in younger players and has decided to build the team around them. Notable names the manager has earmarked as potential first team members are currently not finding life easy in their respective clubs as they have struggled to accumulate enough minutes under their belts.
The story of Alex Iwobi at Arsenal has been the joy of every Nigerian, from playing in the reserve team to a first team call up and in that day he repayed the manager's trust with a goal at Goodison park, from then one became an integral member of the team. But with the decline in the form of the team in recent time, the manager opted to switch to three at the back and consequently Iwobi lost his position in the team. Since the manager adopted the formation he has never played but have always been named on the bench.
At the Etihad, in Manchester another key member of the super eagle have been related to the bench on every match day, Kelechi I
heanacho's story has been that of a beautiful bride who has been abandoned by her groom with the excuse of not having enough children even though she has produced children of high quality. The coming of Gabriel Jesus has successfully pushed him down the perking order in the team.
How well can we describe the situation of our one time captain and currently one of the leaders of our team, Ahmed Musa. The pact winger was bought in the summer for a club record fee but has since been relegated to a permanent role on the bench at Leicester city. Tipped by most bookmakers to do exceedingly well when he first joined the club, though he had showed glimpses of what he could offer the team yet his major problem has always been consistency. Both for footballing and non footballing reasons he has always been on the receiving end.
As the season gradually winds up, indeed every football fan would expect these embattled players to take a decisive decision on their future, since we need them to be at the top of their game.
It's definitely and undoubtedly time for our mainstay in the super eagle to think through their current situation and act decisively.
